Tiny Treasure

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

I’ve just released a new pattern called Tiny Treasure! It’s a free download and is available via Ravelry HERE. You can also download it directly from my site HERE.

Tiny Treasure is a sweet little drawstring bag that can hold little gifts, secrets, treasures, maybe even a tiny project.

Tiny Treasure

I designed it for my upcoming knitting with beads class. A small project that covers two ways to add beads to your knitting. I used just 27 grams of sock yarn for this tiny bag including the icord and pom-poms.

Pom-Poms

Aren’t pom-poms awesome? I want to put them on everything now.

The Flax Collection

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Heading into the holidays it seems a little odd to be releasing spring patterns…but here they are anyway! Earlier this year Universal Yarn put out a call for designs for their designer collaboration program. Luckily my patterns were selected and will be available in pamphlet form from them. If your LYS carries Fibra Natura yarns, look for my little booklet. The collaboration part of this deal allows me to also sell these patterns directly! Check them out below:

The Collection

The whole collection is available via Ravelry as an e-book for $17 or as individual patterns. This collection includes Circuitous, a lacy shrug, Sweet Retreat, a ruffle edged shawl, Suburbanite, a slouch hat, and Wave Runner, a lace edged tank top. Each pattern uses the 100% linen yarn called Flax by Fibra Natura.

These patterns and e-book are now available in my Ravelry store as well as here on my blog (click SHOP).

Jane Austen Knits

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

I love Jane Austen and many knitters I know do as well. What could be better than combining my love of knitting with my love of Jane? Interweave has done just that with Jane Austen Knits, a special edition dedicated to Jane Austen inspired designs. I was honored to be able to contribute two designs to this special publication. This issue is available now as a digital download here, or you can order a print version here. It should be on newsstands around November 8th.

The Scarlet Capelet features my classic round hood and an almost seamless top down construction.

Tina – FTF 8/26/2011

Favorite Thing Friday!

I have many favorites this week, but my most favorit-est of all is my friend Tina. Tina is the nicest and most generous person I think I have ever known. Her up-beat nature and genuine caring for others makes her someone that I aspire to be like. No matter what’s going on in her life, she always makes the time for others. Tina has been going through a rough patch lately, battling cancer. I was devastated to learn that this horrible thing could happen to such a wonderful lady. What can I do in the face of something so evil, so unprejudiced?

I did what I do best, designed. I created this pattern: Tina’s Hope. Something to give her some warmth and comfort, and also something to give to others. I’ve pledged to donate 50% of the sales of this pattern to cancer research.

As always this pattern came together with the help of wonderful friends. Irina Lawrence, the beautiful model, and my test knitters, Teri and Lynda. Thank you all!

Dahlia

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

I’m sorry for not posting here more often…maybe this will make up for it. The Interweave Knits Fall 2011 preview went up today! Scroll down to see my sweater pattern, Dahlia.

Dahlia is a draped front cardigan that starts in the center back with an intricate late panel. Bracelet length afterthought sleeves feature a lace motif at each wrist.

There are no closures on the front, and Interweave chose to show it like this:

However, I like it better with a shawl pin or some other fastener:

Here are some more shots that I took on my phone before sending it off to the Colorado.

Not A Cowl

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Introducing a new pattern! This neck warmer is knit in a luscious merino/camel blend. It’s both light weight and warm.

Cowl n.
definition from Merriam-Webster

1a. A hood or long hooded cloak especially of a monk
1b. A drapped neckline on a woman’s garment
2a. A chimney covering designed to improve the draft
2b. The top portion of the front part of an automobile body forward of the two front doors to which are attached the
windshield and instrument board

For some reason, I’m not exactly sure why, I have a cowl aversion. Not an aversion to garments like this one, but rather a dislike of calling these garments cowls. Therefore, this is a pattern for a neck warmer and Not A Cowl.

A special shout out to my awesome tech editor Sairy!

Wintersweet and Gerda’s Scarves

Monday, October 18th, 2010

What an incredibly busy month October has been. I have 3 or so blog posts to write, so here is the first:

Two of my patterns are being published in the Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts 2010!

Wintersweet Scarf

Wintersweet Scarf (c) Interweave Knits

This scarf was fun to make for two reasons.

First, the yarn was nothing short of delicious! The yarn used is Lana Gatto Camel Hair (distributed by Plymouth Yarn Co.) and it is buttery soft and light and just plain luscious!

Secondly, the construction of this piece is unique. I have a thing against pointy hoods. I don’t know why, I just don’t like that point in the back. My goal for this hood was to make it non-pointy. I started in the front and using increases/decreases and short rows, created the hood in one piece (no seaming) from the top down.

The scarf is also fun. It starts on one end, splits when it meets the hood, and rejoins on the other side. The split takes half the scarf along the back of the neck and the other half up around the face.

The colorwork is simple but keeps the knitting interesting. You have to knit back in purls, but the short chart makes it easy; no catching floats or anything fancy required.

Gerda’s Scarf

Gerda's Scarf (c) Interweave Knits

Gerda’s Scarf has a little story, but since the magazine is not actually available yet, I’m not sure I can tell it. I’m hopeful they kept the story since they kept my name.

The yarn used here is The Alpaca Yarn Company’s Paca de Seda – another awesome yarn. This scarf features double knitting which is a technique that I have fallen in love with.

Double knitting creates a double thick and reversible fabric by working both sides at the same time. The fun thing about it is that on each side the colors are reversed.

For those interested, I have started teaching double knitting classes at Flying Fibers and soon at The Mannings.

Both scarves were incredibly awesome to make – mostly because of the awesome yarns I got to use, but also because of the excitement to be part of an Interweave publication. Everyone I have worked with at IK has been incredibly friendly and helpful. I love working with them and hope to work with them again in the future!

Strawberry

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Here’s a summer pattern for you! This is something I’ve been working on for some time now.

Strawberry is a summer shawlette worked in fingering weight yarn; perfect for chasing away the chill on cool summer evenings. The shawl is designed to be shorter but wider than the traditional triangle shawlette.
