Disk Cardigan

The new Fall 2012 issue of knit.wear is now available and I have a design in this one!

FINISHED SIZE 15 (16, 17, 18, 19)” back width. Cardigan shown measures 15”.
YARN Lorna’s Laces Lion & Lamb (50% silk, 50% wool; 205 yd 187 m/31⁄2 oz 100 g): #4ns blackberry, 7 (7, 8, 8, 9) skeins.|
NEEDLES Size 8 (5 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
NOTIONS Removable markers (m); stitch holder; tapestry needle.|
GAUGE 18 sts and 25 rows = 4” in lace patt.

This is probably the most interesting project I’ve ever designed. Not just because it’s an intricate-looking lace circle cardigan, but because this circle cardigan is made entirely of rectangular pieces.

Seriously, five rectangles. Ok, the one is really tapered and in two pieces, but basically, a rectangle. Don’t believe me? Proof:

Post Assembly

To make sure this would “work” I started with a tiny prototype.

Tiny Pieces

How tiny? Well, I made a hanger for it out of a paper clip!
